Willis-Ekbom disease, also known as Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), is a condition of the nervous system that can cause an overwhelming and irresistible urge to move the legs.
This condition often leaves sufferers with an unpleasant crawling or creeping sensation in their feet, calves, thighs, and occasionally the arms can be affected too.
Some sufferers can be affected by this condition occasionally, while other sufferers can be effected by restless leg syndrome every day.
What Causes Restless Legs Syndrome?
With the majority of restless leg syndrome cases, there’s often no obvious cause of restless legs syndrome.
However, neurologists believe the condition can be caused by disruptions in the sufferers nervous system, and could be down to how their body deals with a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is involved in controlling muscle movement and may be responsible for involuntary leg movements.
In other cases, RLS can be caused because of an underlying health condition, such as an iron deficiency anaemia or possibly kidney failure. This is known as secondary restless legs syndrome.
What Can Be Done About RLS?
Thankfully, there is a restless leg syndrome home remedy you can try.
Slip a bar of soap under your bed sheet to ease restless legs syndrome.
Dr. Julian Whitaker has confirmed that his patients swear by placing a bar of soap in your bed at night, which then helps relieve the symptoms quite significantly.
While this home remedy has not been determined in a completely conclusive manner, theories are that the scent molecules in the soap evaporate and deposit on your legs, where they are then absorbed into your muscles and affect your blood supply.
This method has become so popular in recent years, that it has become a household staple.
Lavender scented soap is also said to help with sleeping.
Some people find placing the naturally scented soap into a sock in the sheets is the best remedy. You could also place the bar of soap under your fitted sheet and seeing if that works just as well.
Disclaimer: At the moment, this remedy is still just a hypothesis. However, many people that suffer from restless legs syndrome have found soap to be one of the best home remedies available today.
