Our Sustainability Promise

Vegan Soap & Candles
Using our perfected soap making formula to create a luxurious lather and long-lasting bar, we are proud to say The English Soap Company soap bars are made with pure vegetable oils, and zero animal products. Our coveted scented candles are made from sustainable and renewable soy wax.

Cruelty Free
The English Soap Company product has never, nor will it ever be tested on animals. With the exception of beeswax in our luxury hand creams, we do not use any animal products in our toiletries or candles.

Locally Sourced
We source our raw materials, ingredients and product packaging as locally as possible. This reduces our carbon footprint as well as supporting the local rural economy, two things that we are passionate about. Examples of locally sourced materials include our paper packaging, perfumes, brochures and our corrugate used in packing orders.

Made in England
We will never buy finished soaps or toiletries from anywhere else, be it in the UK or abroad. Every soap, candle, hand wash, and body wash we sell, we make ourselves on our Sussex farm site. Not only does this give us greater control over the sustainability and quality of the product but it helps reduce our carbon footprint.
Recyclable Packaging
We strive to ensure our product packaging is as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible, using recyclable materials.

Soap Bar Paper Wraps
Our fully recyclable and biodegradable paper wraps are made from wood-free, environmentally accredited stocks which are FSC® certified. They are chemical-free, printed with vegetable-based inks and developed thermally, as opposed to chemically.

Recyclable Cardboard
All cardboard used in our box packaging, from gift boxes to hand cream boxes to candles, is fully recyclable and biodegradeable. They are printed with vegetable-based inks and water-based lamination, by an eco-conscious carbon-balanced company.

Bottle & Tube Labels
Our hand and body washes and hand creams are labelled with FSC® certified paper labels.

PCR Plastic Bottles
PETE 1 recyclable plastic bottle is 100% recyclable and made from 100% PCR (post-consumer resin). PCR plastics refer to any plastic material made from recycled post-consumer resins. They are environmentally friendly and a far more sustainable option than any other type of plastic.

Aluminium Tubes
Our luxury hand creams are presented in aluminium tubes, far more environmentally friendly than plastic alternatives. They are not only fully recyclable, but ensure you get maximum product out of the tube before recycling.

Glass Bottles & Jars
The English Soap Company Eaux de Toilette and Kew Gardens Eaux de Toilette and Body Oils are presented in glass bottles, for easy recycling. Our soy-based scented candles are encased within a glass jar, which can be either be recycled or repurposed after use.
What is FSC® certification?
FSC® is considered to be the most rigorous and reputable method of forest certification now in use. It is an independent, member-led organisation that promotes environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically successful management of the world’s forests. The certification method for Chain of Custody traces the movement of goods across the supply chain.

Sustainability Practices
At our head office and manufacturing site in Sussex, we endeavor to use sustainable practices wherever possible, these include:

Recycling and Reusing
We recycle as much as possible, whether it be on our production line, in distribution, or in the office. This includes both raw materials and packing material. For example, rather than bring in additional material to pad out online orders we will reuse what we already have.
Our team are encouraged to bring in their recyclable cardboard to be reused as packing this ensures customers’ packages are protected whilst doing that extra little bit for the environment.

Car Sharing Scheme
With our team of staff ever-growing we have encouraged a Car Sharing Scheme allowing staff to travel in together, thus reducing car emissions, whilst also reducing the price of petrol for our employees due to inflation.

Digital vs. Printouts
Our new computer systems ensure that all orders and records are kept digitally wherever possible. This includes our new Wholesale Website, developed in 2022 to provide a digital purchasing channel for our stockists. This has led to a marked decrease in the number of printed documents.
When there is no alternative but to print a document, we ensure to source locally whenever possible to help reduce our carbon footprint and support the local community .
Palm Oil
We are transparent in our use of palm oil in our product formulas, and only use palm oil from RSPO members. Palm oil is a source of some contraversy, so head to our Palm Oil Statement page for full disclosure and explanation of the intricacies of its usage.
